As for the campaign and accompanying video, the concept puts the Middle Eastern sensibility for colours and DEMOBAZA well-known post-apocalyptic and dystopian silhouette in the vast desert of Dubai. Demo and Tono, the Bulgarian design duo behind the brand, has always wanted to shoot in the desert as a result of being inspired by the Namibian otherworldly dunes. An initial plan to shoot the campaign in Morocco was didn’t come through due to logistical nightmares and some financial hurdles.
Still, they gave already worked in Dubai for the SS16 collection, so the location for the Starseed campaign became a no-brainer. It’s a magical place you have the typical desert with impressive dunes, a rocky and challenging terrain or cliffs for some impressive panorama shots. It’s really beautiful and inspiring. The Middle East is an impressive place.
Shot once again with frequent collaborator Ruscen Vidinliev-Rushi, Starseed required a 40-strong team, capable of working under the sweltering heat of the Dubai desert. Melanie and Simonas, the models for the campaign, managed to change and walk with dozens of different outfits like champions. Shooting in the desert is really challenging, you cannot repeat a spot as you don’t want to spend days in post-production, removing human steps and all. We moved as a caravan for every next shot, but it turned out well in the end.
